Activities

One of our favourite days out is a canoe trip down through the gorges of the Herault. The canoe hire we use is Canoe Rapido in St Guilhem Le Desert ( a beautiful village well worth visiting for lunch/dinner). Drive there, book and pay at the office (it’s on the main road as you enter the village on the left hand side), then drive further on to the departure point (they will drive you upstream to the departure point).

Bring a picnic on the canoe, stop on the way for a swim in the river, there’s a beach bar near the end of the classic trail (12km, a leisurely 2 hours downstream). Suitable for six-years plus. (continued below)

Another nice day out for the kids is to visit the nearby farm ‘Ferme du Dolmen’ – there is a picnic area and they can feed the animals.

The Meze Dinasour Park is very close (halfway between the house and Meze), as is the Foret D’Acrobates in Montagnac (tree climbing, zip-lining, rope bridge walking etc…in the forest).

The beach and port at Meze is only 20 minutes drive from the house and the beautiful Herault river which runs through the village (2 mins walk) is perfect for a day of barbeque, swimming, canoeing or fishing.

There is also a small children’s playground, a basketball/football court, table tennis and communal tennis court in the village (raquets and balls provided).

And if you’d like to try some really excellent, award-winning Languedoc wine, our friendly neighbours Michel and France, who own the wine domaine Quatre Amours, are only a two minute stroll away (and Olga and Louis are excellent babysitters!).

The town of Pezenas is the most beautiful in the Languedoc and is only 10mins drive from the house. The Saturday morning market is a must-see, as is the Friday night ‘Estival’ – a local wine and food tasting festival at night in the town centre (July & Aug only). The town is full of great bars, cafes, shops and historical buildings. Check out some of our recommendations on the Place To Eat page.
