Where To Eat

Waterside Restaurant, Bouzigues

Here are some recommendations for dining out:

The restaurants in the area all have different opening days/nights so make sure you call in advance to check that they’re open and make a booking.

Guingettes

Guingettes are pop up bars / restaurants that appear during summer months along the banks of the Herault River. Our favourites are The Poisson Plume (2 min drive, just outside the village, heading towards Gignac, at the turn for Tressan go left and drive down through the vineyards, first right, first left), we also like La Famourette

If you’re a food and wine lover, check out the new restaurant Cote Mas at the nearby wine Domaine Paul Mas in Montagnac (5 mins). Beautiful setting and great selection of quality wines, from the source!, at very low prices (€2 per glass).

Pezenas is full of great restaurants, some of our favourites are;

Le Vieux Coq , Place Gambetta –   – A little gem on the corner of a scenic square, try to get a table outside (the square is in the old part of Pezenas , also good for families in the evening as the children can run around in the square). Good value, old style French cooking.

Les Palmiers – busy and buzzing every weekend, just around the corner from Place Gambetta.

L’Entre Pots – Very modern decor and style of cooking, but still very French. Pricey, a ‘special occasion’ restaurant, but good food.

L’Amphitryon, 5 Rue Marechal Plantavit – Modern French cooking , good quality, a bit pricey for Pezenas but good quality.

The new Garrigae hotel has modern wine bar / bistro called La Distillerie and is worth a visit for an aperitif.

Les Cordiliers (at the bridge on your way into Pezenas) does a good pizza in a beautiful setting around a pool (which is open to customers)

Le Pre St Jean on the main road through Pezenas (near Hotel Moliere, opposite the carpark) serves fantastic authentic French food. Very quiet, a bit formal, old-school French service, great wine list.

If you fancy a break from French food, try Hana Sushi – a small restaurant in the middle of Pezenas selling really great, fresh sushi. This is our favourite place – tell Yumi we sent you!

Le Grain de Riz is a good, cheap and cheerful Vietnamese restaurant in Pezenas (opposite Carrefour).

OTHER VILLAGES

Bouzigues is the mussel and oyster centre of the Languedoc. Most of the restaurants on the seafront are good but our favourite for really excellent, fresh seafood is Le Grand Bleu. Book a table on the top floor terrace for a special seaview. Highly recommended!

A nearby restaurant serving great food but in a more relaxed setting is Lou Regalou in the village of St Pargoire (5 mins).

If you want to take a scenic drive into the hills in the evening, the village of Montpeyroux has one of our favourite little restaurants, La Terrasse de Mimosa, which is also an old wine shop (bring the map!). You can eat outside, they have tables in the village square. It’s about 20 min from the house.

De Lauzan – Michelin star restaurant – excellent food. In the town of Gignac (10 min drive) . Another ‘special occasion’ restaurant which we prefer to L’Entrepots. Also in Gignac, there is a small cheap and cheerful, but very good family restaurant called L’Oleiade.

Sunday lunch is always a wonderfully French, bustling, noisy, family affair at Le Bistrot d’Alex in Florensac. Unusual location (part of a wine co-op building, a good place to stock up!) but superb food. Highly recommended but you need to book!

Marseillan is a really beautiful little port town with some great seafood restaurants with seating outside looking onto the water. We like Le Chateau du Port but most places are good along the waterside.

The nearest place for a cheap and cheerful pizza and carafe of wine is the pizza restaurant in Paulhan – Pizza au Feu du Bois, but only if you like pizza! There are some  great patisseries in this village.

Clermont L’Herault is a 10-15 min drive and has a great market, lots of restaurants, a playground, supermarket etc… One of our favourites is Le Tournesol

For drinks;

Le 5 Gallery in Pezenas – 5, rue Canabasserie. A small cafe/restaurant/bar which is also a guest house. Great wines & tapas, the perfect spot for an aperitif in Pezenas.

Le Bar a Vin in Pezenas – 20, Cours Jean Jaurès – Small wine bar in the centre of Pezenas, great local beers and wines, tables and chairs outside on the footpath.
